http://www.badmintonasia.org/update...-again-in-badminton-asia-junior-championships As expected CHN juniors retained the mixed team title for the fourth year running. Results here http://bwfbadminton.com/results/269...hampionships-2016-mixed-team-event/2016-07-12 or you can view it at tournamentsoftware https://www.tournamentsoftware.com/...46D7BA5-2474-4488-99EE-F96C40A92712&match=145 I also noticed at the group stage, INA 4 - 1 MAS , the noteworthy result being INA Gregoria Mariska beating MAS Goh Jin Wei, 18-21, 26-24, 21-15 in 1hr 11 mins. An upset of sorts, I'm sure many, esp INA fans, will be paying attention to Gregoria Mariska's performance in the individual event that follows.
As antssantss posted in the Chinese badminton website, CHN Sun Feixiang beating JPN Koki Watanabe in the group stage matchup is another notable result. Let's see how their rivalry continues in the individual event. Of course, there should be a few other fancied ones, just that I'm not familiar with the junior circuit to name them. But I noticed the No.2 seed, IND Chirag Sen has withdrawn.
For me, I'm definitely looking forward to Chen Yufei's and Goh Jin Wei's quest for the WS crown and not forgetting Gregoria Mariska's potential after her unexpected but remarkable victory over GJW in their group match.
interestingly, Korea after lost in the Group match to China 0-5 they had fielded a new team for the final!
Right, after the shutout, team KOR tried a completely new lineup against CHN in the final. But, it's also reported that their WS Kim Ga Eun suffered severe leg cramps in her semifinal win over THA Chochuwong Pornpawee, so in the final against CHN, she teamed up with Lee Ye Na. In the individual event, I'd expect Chen Yufei, Goh Jin Wei, Chochuwong Pornpawee, Kim Ga Eun (who beat the top seed Pornpawee), and Gregoria Mariska to vie for the WS Asian junior crown. As we know, junior players being young, immature and inexperienced often have ups and downs, easily affected by their moods, and plagued by inconsistency in their formative stage of development. I call to mind the THA child prodigy, Busanan Ongbumrungpan, who impressed at the senior level but always underperformed in the junior circuit.
Actually, for me, in WS, or should I say, GS, there are a few other names to look out for, namely, JPN Natsuki Nidaira, SIN Yeo Jia Min, CHN Li Wenmei and Gao Fangjie.
I wonder why India didn't send Siril verma to this tournament. Is he busy with studies?. They brought in 14 year old Lakshya Sen.
Yes I was surprised that the Japanese team didn't play well. China on the other hand have performed credibly. Well done the coaches so far! Lets see what happens tomorrow.
As usual, Lakshya Sen did not disappoint his selectors. He entered Quarterfinals defeating Koki watnabe in straight games. Considering his age, 14 years old, he did a marvelous job. Hope he move further in this tournament.
BS top-seed Kantaphon Wangcharoen will find stern test today at last eight to meet China best hopeful in this category, Sun Feixiang. Girl's singles frontrunners, last year beaten finalist Pornpawee Chochuwong, Chen Yufei and reigning World Junior Champion Goh Jin Wei are expected to through into final four. I remember last year He Bingjiao beat Chochuwong Pornpawee at the Asia junior also held in Bangkok, there was livestream. None this time ? Maybe on Final's Day ?
The No.1 WS seed, Chochuwong Pornapwee, retired at 1-7 in G2 after a crushing loss in G1, 9-21 to Gao Fangjie. Is she injured ?
It is not muscle cramp but muscle injury. It is severe. That is why she lose to Indonesia in the group match then she withdraw playing her WD match despite winning the match due to muscle injury. Then she played on despite having muscle injury in the individual event. Pitiful girl. And besides that Pornpawee Chochuwong is also injured causing her to withdraw halfway through her match today.
WJC Goh Jin Wei is out, stopped by KOR Kim Ga Eun, 21-13,17-21,21-13. INA Gregoria Mariska barely survived at the hands of Natsuki Nidaira for a place in the semifinals, 19-21,24-22,21-19. So is the MS top seed THA Kontaphon Wancharoen, downed by CHN Sun Feixiang, 21-16,21-18. CHN Chen Yufei marches on sweeping aside Pattarasuda Chaiwan, 21-9, 21-13.
