I believe the very reason why China can host "almost" any kind of badminton tournament is because of financial capability, 101% government support, & people's best interest in welcoming the events! Take few examples; 2008 Olympic in Beijing (it took 13~15 months for Chinese government in building few additional express way in order to prevent traffic jam, moved all manufactures into outside the capital, built Bird's Nest stadium & its villages, etc). 2010 Asian Games in GuangZhou (each provinces in China bid enormous amount of money to host this event, renovated the city infrastructures, built new stadium, etc..all with very less financial support from capital Beijing), 2011 Sudirman Cup in QingDao province (i barely even heard of this province until now) However, the downside is that China government prioritized its people to get the tickets, then foreigners later (with higher price). For foreign athletes, if the services judges, umpires, line-judges, video-replays, TV-coverages,.. all would prioritize Chinese team (possibly because most of them are Chinese or being bribed by China government to support their athletes). I've seen few events where foreign athletes requested to have a reply on TV regarding in/out call by line-judge but umpire reluctantly granted it. During recently Sudirman Cup final, LinDan could easily take a short break to wipe off the sweat while P.Gade asked a little break to wipe off the sweat but instead getting a yellow card by the umpire (the umpire looks like Chinese anyway!)
Yes, this is the sort of double standard when tournaments are held in china. Yes, the ref is from Chinese Taipei!!!. Can't they get someone from Sri Lanka, Australia for this match? It certainly cause PG to lose his concentration in the match
In the next few years, hoping to see some of these big tournaments being held regularly in Indonesia and Thailand.
Christian Hadinata satisfied Full story: http://www.thejakartaglobe.com/sports/indonesia-bows-out-in-semifinals/443885 Fatigue got the better of Indonesia’s shuttlers as they exited the Sudirman Cup on Saturday. Having played an emotionally and physically taxing quarterfinal tie against Japan on Friday, Indonesia had little left in its tank in a 3-1 loss to Denmark their semifinal clash in Qingdao, China. .... Indonesia won the inaugural title in 1989 but hasn’t won the biennial Badminton World Federation event since. The country limped into Qingdao with a makeshift roster after losing a number of key players to injuries. Mixed doubles shuttler Liliyana Natsir (elbow) and the men’s doubles pair of Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan (knee) begged to be left off the team as they looked to regain their fitness. Taufik Hidayat, Indonesia’s top men’s singles shuttler at No. 2 in the world, withdrew from the squad because he wanted the younger players to be given a chance to play in a high-profile international tournament. Given the circumstances, Indonesia head coach Christian Hadinata said the team performed according to expectations.
Gang of four will return to make Indonesia even stronger Sunday, May 29, 2011 - Badmintonphoto Full story: http://bulutangkissport.blogspot.com/2011/05/gang-of-four-will-return-to-make.html Indonesia strongly believe the absence of four former world champions from their Sudirman Cup squad will turn out to be a blessing in disguise. Taufik Hidayat (picture), Liliyana Natsir, Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan all missed the 2011 Double Star BWF Sudirman Cup World Mixed Team Championships in Qingdao, but Indonesia still reached Saturday’s semi-final where they were beaten 3-1 by Denmark – only their third loss to the Europeans in 10 Sudirman Cup meetings. Coach Christian Hadinata said: “We came with a very young squad as some of our top stars are injured. “I think the younger players in the team have benefited playing in this high quality competition as they were able to witness first hand some of the best players in the world. “We had no set targets before coming to China. We wanted to do the best we could and we are delighted to have maintained Indonesia’s record of reaching the semi-finals of all 12 Sudirman Cup competitions.” On the future of Taufik, Liliyana, Markis and Hendra, Christian said he is confident they would return to the national team for future team events. “There is no reason for them not to return to the national team. I’m confident they will be back once their injuries heal,” said Hadinata Indonesia, who were the inaugural winners of the competition in 1989, have not reached the final of the Sudirman Cup since a 3-0 loss to China in 2007.
Sorry i'm late Yup, still proud of you all figthting full spirit SAlute Anyway... Very impressing with MA/AY, they can find chemistry althought their not pairing before.
Jakarta or Wuhan for 2012 TUC host? Interesting to wait... Both countries need it since only defending champion & host country who automatically qualified in final round May next year.
Yup, Alvent/Ahsan was really impressive against world#1 Boe/Mogensen, no pressure at all despite INA's position 0-2 behind. Also vs JPN #1 Hashimoto/Hirata in opening match, they performed well. Credit to INA team, with some core players absence, still get a medal and fulfill semifinal target, hopefully better result next time
Hopefully... MNCTV as official broadcast TUC 2012 commitment, live broadcast full matched. Not like happen to Sudirman CUp, fInal didn't be broadcasted...
