To put it another way: So, in a manner of speaking, you may say that Ms. Wang (and Li and Montero) have individually and collectively been robbed of the chance of "giving the bird" to their erstwhile opponents.
Late night update: XD top guns Grace/Toby (as you can see, Toby's fallen from Grace) have an easy outing against Lino/Cynthia of Mexico. Grether/Reid still bossing the WD section, their opponents just vanished! Adrian/Derrick justifying their top billing in MD as well... Michelle Li doing likewise in WS Yuhan Tan from Belgium doing likewise in MS. All matches featuring Christin Tsai were awarded walkovers, as she evidently injured herself yesterday, and retired halfway through her second game against Victoria Na of Australia. Victoria was subsequently defeated by Victoria (nee Montero of Mexico) to signal a final end to her participation in this tourney. And that is the end of this communique. Tune in tomorrow at the same time for more news and updates. Maybe.
Finals: The 2011 Yonex Canadian International Challenge is over. Winners were: XD Ng/Gao over Ng/Bruce WS Michelle Li over Lianne Tan MS Carl Baxter over Michael Lahnsteiner MD Liu/Ng over Arthuso/Paiola WD Bruce/Li over Grether/Reid So the Canadians finish winning 4/5 of the finals. But it sure was nice having so many people travel so far to make things truly international. (We'll see you next year , LD_rules?)
Mmm... Lobster Technically all winners here were Canadian, seeing as Baxter is actually born in Canada so clean sweep If not next year, then 100% the following year
More like... in terms of the amount of Walkovers this tournament? Anyway, I guess the hotel internet has good upload speed... so here are the finals from today! 2011 Canadian International Challenge Finals: XD F: Ng/Gao [CAN] vs. Ng/Bruce [CAN]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rq58kW0hvVU WS F: Li [CAN] vs. Tan [BEL] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XdV6ONT3lM MS F: Baxter [ENG] vs. Lahnsteiner [AUT] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvM-Wc-GyxA MD F: Liu/Ng [CAN] vs. Arthuso/Paiola [BRA] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XLJlDWnvPY WD F: Bruce/Li [CAN] vs. Reid/Grether [CAN] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIlRC37xF7g Enjoy!
Congratulations to Team Canada for doing so well at the Canadian International Challenge 2011. Although expected and anticipated, it is always a nice feeling to actually win almost all of the gongs on offer. Significantly, the WD and XD were also an all-Canada affair. IN particular, Michelle Li outshone the others by not only (expectedly) taking the WS title, but then she later paired up with the 7'9" Alex Bruce (editor's note: obligatory hyperbole just got used up) and as unseeded finalists, they vanquished the evergreen duo of #1 seeds Grether/Reid. And now, for the Page 2 version of the news. The XD on the other hand, has some people questioning the results. It has been suggested by some people that Toby Ng (of the #1 seed pairing with Grace) threatened his brother Derrick that he would eat up all of Derrick's share of the Christmas pudding if he got in the way. It was subsequently reported that Derrick was seen stumbling about the court like a zombie while Alex Bruce almost single-handedly rained retribution on the hapless Toby. However, as always, he was rescued in time by the saving Grace. Thank you Team Canada, for a wonderful early Christmas present to all your fans. God bless you all. And Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays!
Geez towbsss, with that big money win, it must be you buying the lobster for the whole team tonight!! Thanks for the videos. Safe flight home!
The Belgians must have a lot of money if they can send their coach with them, I actually know who the guy is, but his name has slipped my mind at this point
Toby has posted full videos on Youtube. The links are available above, in post # 26 You can also check Toby's Canadian players' thread for more info on his blogs, and other pics.
If anybody is interested a local professional photographer Dan MacDonald was there taking pictures and has uploaded some and is in the process of uploading the rest. His album can be found here: http://ambientlight.zenfolio.com/f725064800
Thanks for the good link, Nicholas! My favorite picture, of those posted so far, is this one -- exemplifies the effort required to take the shuttle early. http://ambientlight.zenfolio.com/p921770076/h16124ed9#h16124ed9
