Some familiar names have withdrawn, Danish Thomas Cup hero Hans Kristian Vittinghus, former champion Srikanth Kidambi and Thai veteran Boonsak Ponsana. All eyes will pay attention to Chen Long whether he can repeat Rio outstanding performance at homesoil after three months hiatus. It's tricky path for Chen en route to the final, first round will take on Tommy Sugiarto then possibly his younger teammate, the rising star Shi Yuqi, followed by Son Wan Ho at last eight and Viktor Axelsen in semifinal. On top-half of draw, in the absence of Malaysian badminton icon, three seeded players remain as the front-runner to check into last round, Jan O Jorgensen, Tian Houwei and Chou Tien Chen. Looking at WS script, the intriguing plot may happen on lower half draw, second seed Ratchanok Intanon will find stern test at very early round, Japan prodigy Akane Yamaguchi who scored twice victories in Superseries circuit recently. Sixth seed Sung Ji Hyun also has tough opening round, current French Open runner-up Nitchaon Jindapol. 2014 champion and last beaten finalist Saina Nehwal will up against Thai challenger Porntip Buranaprasertsuk and the Indian jewel is slated to meet China latest sensation, He Bingjiao in last sixteen. The on paper scenario looks fine for seeded players at upper half draw, Carolina Marin will face Tai Tzu Ying in last eight and Nozomi Okuhara has Sun Yu as possible quarterfinal opponent. Several men's doubles combinations are no longer exist including last year winner Kim GJ/Kim SR also top Korean pair Lee YD/Yoo YS and reigning Olympic Champion Fu HF/Zhang N. The well-improved local pair Li JH/Liu YC who succeeded to clinch first ever Superseries crown in Japan two months ago will be China main hopeful in this department, considering their number one pair Chai/Hong slump performance post Rio OG. Other title contenders should be Malaysian Rio silver medalist Goh VS/Tan WK and two-time winner Boe/Mogensen who captured last two Superseries title in Odense and Paris respectively. All WD eight seeds get first round bye indicating lack of participant in this discipline. Rio podium finishers, Matsutomo/Takahashi, Jung KE/Shin SC and Pedersen/Juhl are the favourite while the host will rely on new lethal combination Chen QC/Jia YF and Luo twin sisters. Chinese young XD hotshots Zheng Siwei/Chen Qingchen who carved incredible run to reach final in seven consecutive tournaments, started from mid-year AUS Open occupy fifth seed here and have possibility to face Rio silver medalist Chan PS/Goh LY at last eight and either top-seed Ko SH/Kim HN or The Adcocks in semifinal. Two Indonesian elite pairs, the Olympic Champion Ahmad/Natsir and All England winner Jordan/Susanto have same half draw, the latter are trying to revive their fine form after strings of below par performance at top level tournament. Joining them at bottom half, Danish vast experienced pair Fischer/Pedersen and world number eight, Lu K/Huang YQ. *Player's withdrawal : - MS : Lee Chong Wei (MAS), Hans Kristian Vittinghus (DEN), Srikanth Kidambi (IND), Boonsak Ponsana (THA) - MD : Fu HF/Liu XL (CHN), Isara/Phuangphuapet (THA), Briggs/Wolfenden (ENG) - WD : Ma J/Zhong QX (CHN), Huang YQ/Tang JH (CHN) - XD : Xu C/Tang JH (CHN), Isara/Amitrapai (THA) QUALIFICATION (10.00am local time), XD R/32 (04.00pm) => https://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/matches.aspx?id=12490F7E-629A-410C-9365-F7938C57AA25
So many players/pairs withdrew sigh. I was looking forward to watch MJ/Zhong, Xu/TJH, KS (his injuries has already affected his rankings a lot) and obvio LCW.
Li Yinhui is not letting herself go, somewhat stilted, I suspect she's fearful of not living up to her illustrious senior's expectations or not being good enough for him. I mean, she used to be very aggressive, fast and furious in WD, but with Zhang Nan in XD, she's considerably more restrained , even cautious. I think she's giving herself too much pressure trying to fit Zhao Yunlei's shoes. I supposed Zhang Nan is not expecting her to do it so soon, for sure it'll take quite a bit of time to build rapport and establish mutual, tacit understanding to the same degree as ZYL had with him.
Who is Peng qin (penguin !)? I wonder how they pronounce her name. Superb name. I wanna see how she will fare against He bingjiao.
Superb name or game? I miss her game. Anyway, it's Zhang Yiman, not her, who will face He Bingjiao tomorrow.
In R1, Xue Song (is his ankle fully recovered?) will face off Viktor Axelsen , who is expected to avenge his All England defeat on him.
Gao Fangjie fresh (or tired) from the long two-week WJC is up against a representative JPN runner and retriever, the well-known, Mitani Minatsu. Remember how Gao FJ was frustrated and thwarted by Oie Natsuki at the WJC individual event by her opponent's ability to run and get a lot back. Mitani is an even more experienced and reputed retriever. I seriously doubt GFJ has learned enough so soon from that grinding match to know how to handle the quintessential Mitani, an even tougher proposition.
The unknown Peng Qin is the one poised to cross swords with the newly crowned WS WJC, Chen Yufei (who is tired and probably still in cloud nine as well as jetlagged, I think) in the closing match tomorrow.
Peng Qin is an 18-year old who is not considered good enough for the WJC. You can see her play against WYH in the CSL 2016 in the video below. I don't think she can beat CYF irrespective of the latter's physical conditions.
Saina's first tournament after her knee operation. We can't see her full power and aggression. This is opportunity for youngsters to beat her starting from the Round 1 . Portnip is her first round opponent, who lost to Saina in 9 out of 10 meetings. This is the time for her to improve her negative h2h . If Saina through to 2nd round, She will meet He Bingjiao, who has all chances to beat "this" Saina which her compatriot Sun Yu could not do it in the last 6 encounters. Saina is just half fit. I got news from sources that she is testing her body condition in this tournament. She thinks this injury might be the end of her career. But want to proceed for one more year and see how it goes.
Oh my my "end of her career" please don't say that Yeah, I don't she would go all out tomorrow plus PB is no pushover. SN should stay cautious and all precautions to further aggravate the condition. Although I think, its a good decision to test the waters. CHN PSS has tense atmosphere around and will be a real test for her.
"many people will think my career will end and I won’t come back. I also think somewhere deep in my heart that maybe it is the end of my career, so let’s see how it is. .." Saina said in one of her recent interview.
Could you please help me? Where can I find all the results(not video) of the whole China badminton Superleague 2016? Thank you!
