Who will win the 100 metres sprint? I'm looking forward to this one, along with a WR. - Powell (JAM) - Bolt (JAM) - Gay (USA) - Any others?
Definitely Powell!! Tyson Gay won't have a chance.. and for 400m, it's Wariner.. but i hope he won't beat M.Johnson's world record because M.Johnson is the best sprinter of all time!!
100m Is looking tight, I might go for Powell, although he is a strong sprinter he is certainly not the favourite. Gay is injured still so won't be fully fit. Bolt is the favourite, but is inconsistent. 110m Hurdles should be the best race - Xiang vs Roubles. Normally Roubles taking the world record would ease the pressure but in this case with home crowd and heavy expectation it will have put more pressure on LX. Hurdles requires a good rhythm and pressure can disturb this.
One certain gold medal will be won by Russian pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva. She's broken the world record a staggering 23 times, most recently at Monaco in her last pre-Olympic event. Her record now stands at 5.04 m and no other woman is remotely close!
Nothing is for certain, and a number of women have been close - 4.97-5.01m it only takes a couple of bad jumps for the pressure to tell. In her case though I agree. In Athens she was on her last jump against feofanova(sp?) and jumped it, then clear the next jump first time and took the gold. She has never looked back since.
asafa powell all the way..meanwhile 1 Cuba born 110 meters hurdles looks good to challenge liu xiang for the gold in OG08.
The pressure on Liu is tremendous. I honestly can't see him pulling it off. His injury has never really been righted and his form has deserted him at the wrong time. That said, I am still fully rooting for him.
If Bolt can get a half decent start (tough for a 6 ft 5 in giant), the race is over. In the Stockholm race (2 races ago I think), Bolt had a slow start; coupled with Powell's blast off the blocks, it left Bolt a lot to do but he closed dramatically in the last 30 metres and was just pipped at the line. Like I said, if Bolt can get a half decent start....
Yeah, World Record Holder 12.87 Dayron Robles is top-fave together with Liu Xiang to win Beijing Gold.

Radcliffe intends to run in Olympic marathon Aug 4, 7:17 am EDT MACAU (AP)— Paula Radcliffe intends to run the marathon at the Beijing Olympics “unless my leg breaks down.” The world record holder from Britain has been trying to overcome a stress fracture in her left thigh in time to compete in her fourth straight Olympics. “I’m racing unless my leg breaks down,” said the 34-year-old Radcliffe, who joined her teammates at their training base in Macau on Monday. “The aim has always been to start the race. Everyday I go out and plan to start the race,” Radcliffe added. “I’m getting more and more confident, because every day you run more on it and it gets stronger.” Radcliffe dropped out of the marathon at the 2004 Athens Games, but she won the world championship title in the event a year later in Helsinki, Finland. “I feel good. I feel happier even to be at this stage,” Radcliffe said. “I know from the stuff that I’ve done that I’m in good enough shape to be on the start line.” In February, Radcliffe won the Laureus award for World Comeback of the Year for winning the New York Marathon after two years away from competition following childbirth. She set the world record of 2 hours, 15 minutes, 25 seconds at the London Marathon in 2003. She also won the London race in 2002 and ‘05. “I don’t know but I guess I’m probably not in 2:12 shape, but I think if you put yourself on the start line, you’re in with a chance,” Radcliffe said.
100M Men - Asafa Powell held the world record in the 100m between 2005 June and 2008 May but poor Powell has never won Olympic and World Championships. Can he do it this time?
