Budget-wise, as far as Japan's A-Team is concerned, this is a self-financed tournament. Nevertheless, Naraoka badly wants a place in the WTF; Tsuneyama realises that unless he amasses more points quickly, he will nose-dive down the rankings; ... as for Nishimoto??? Maybe he wanted a break before Australia??? But more likely, maybe he wants to participate in the S/J League for his new corporate team, JTEKT, on November 5 and 6. Actually, on November 6, JTEKT is slated to meet NTT-East. You never know; there could well be a show-down with Momota!!
I remember reading from an Instagram post of an Okuhara fan page about it & Okuhara's Insta stories about self-financing herself for this tournament. Seeing her struggle against Pai Yu Po in Denmark was sad to see, hope she progresses at least semis or the finals! Hoping she gets back into form gradually. Round 32 match results in 23-21 against Lauren Lam from the USA for the first set. Convingly doing a well second set until 21-15, giving Lauren Lam 4 points (21-11 down) then eventually winning. Hope for the best for Okuhara in this tournament!!!
Hopefully Okuhara does well but it is undeniable that she is past her prime and is now in the gradual descent of her career too. I don't think she can reliably win points for the team in future team championships either.
Pathetic display by All England runner-up and current world #8, he lost meekly and dispirited to face Ng KL steady play. Sen performed well in first quarter of this season, inconsistency problem is approaching like other youngsters. MS highest seeded player, Chou TC outwits China number one, the former made interesting turnaround in second game, trailed behind 3-10, 5-11 then won 21-16. Tactical awareness, the left-hander Zhao JP has no back-up plan, getting panic and blank straight-forwardly rather than how to steer the game on right track.
I had a thought like this throughout watching that match & previous tournaments she competed in this year. Unfortunately, that is what happens with most athletes. We can only hope for the best.
Okuhara used to make efforts to retrieve every attacking shots just like Yamaguchi. But lately, she looked hesitant and selective about actively putting up a great defence. It looks like she is avoiding injury or trying not to aggravate injury or something. She is relying more on racket skill and good shot placements. If opponent persevere then problem. Hope this is just a temporary thing. Missed the previous Okuhara. Anyway, win or lose, it is good of her to take part in order to keep in touch and also for live practices. I wonder if she should consider going back to be part of the national team instead of continuing on as independent. Being in the national team, can get stable motivation and trainings. In Japan, Okuhara is the only one who can sometimes defeat Yamaguchi. Always great to watch these 2 fight each other. Some of the fiercest fights I've seen is watching these 2 fighting it out. Okuhara is part of the national team. She is independent (turned pro) in the sense that she is no longer employed by a corporate team, that is all.
Loh Kean Yew is at his best when he plays freely, going with the flow, his speed, anticipation second to none, just not consistent enough and often let his eagerness to win affect his game, otherwise, I think he should beat VA more often than not and achieve better results than he's done so far. In this match with SYQ, the latter started passively and tentatively but LKY happened to be in his element today with nothing much to lose in this S300 event except pride perhaps. SYQ sensing defeat played with more urgency, stepped it up in G2 but ,with LKY stubbornly at his tail, failed to keep up the pressure as the score was to close for comfort, and lost it in the end. Actually, I feel if SYQ has a stronger will to win and play with more confidence and not overthink, I believe he still has a fighting chance to turn the match around in G2 and win the decider as well.
I missed the Han Yue - Yvonne Li match, how did HY drubbed YL , 21-7, 21-9 ? Yvonne is no pushover, in my opinion.
I usually bet against Yvonne Lee, Qi Xuefie, Lianne Tan. Iris Wang shows a little bit of improvement among this b-category, if I may put it so.
