I think with the screaming, it's more annoying for the TV viewers rather than the people in court. All the issue will be solved if the technician mutes/decrease the mike volume that is present near the court. I don't think it is that difficult with the kind of technology we have. Just mute/decrease the volume of the mike until the players 'celebrate' may be for 5-10 secs. But regarding excessive, unnecessary and provocative screaming, the umpire should be given responsibility to warn the players. Warn twice, like giving green and yellow cards. If the player doesn't listen, show him/her the red card and send him/her out of the court. Play hard. Train harder.
Almost a decade ago, a similar discussion was started on this very forum - https://www.badmintoncentral.com/fo...play-considered-not-good-for-badminton.79553/
Good news, @Charlie-SWUK , we're not crazy! So there is a study on screaming, and what it does to the brain. Apparently the scream (like babies and alarms) have loudness fluctuations in the 40-80kHz range, which triggers aversion and pain areas of the brain of the listener. https://digest.bps.org.uk/2019/10/0...nd-aversion-making-them-impossible-to-ignore/
This reminds me of the time I watched a ten-year-old girl playing hangman with her friends. None of them could guess her word ... because it was, “amygdalohippocampectomy”!! (Her father is a brain surgeon) So maybe the screaming is fine. It is we complainers who are in need of this surgery to make us less sensitive.
I stopped watching women's tennis once most players started screaming. Would hate to see it happen in badminton.
I watch her matches during gym. Sensational stuff. Me: Man, I don't know about that 5kg jump in weight today on the bar. The body doesn't feel as... Marin: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaa AAAaaouuu!! *Instant 10kg PR*
Poor Carolina. So much abuse. I don’t like the screaming, either. But she is a pretty amazing athlete. I remember at AE2016, she was the player who stuck around the longest, after her matches, to sign autographs. I say this to remind us that we might hate one thing she does (so, so loudly) but we gotta respect the whole person.
Since I only experience the match that is streamed, I care much more about what I see there than what she (or anyone else) does off the field. While I'm glad to hear she's not always a b***h, it changes nothing about the fact that I hate her stupid banshee wails.
and off the play>on the play? and how is smart banshee wails? Love or hate have nothing to do here. Big view drop had point to discuss love or hate, its just different types of obsession. Bwf would love to have more screaming. More whinning fans, more view
She sounds like a nice person, I'm sure she is! I actually like her playing a lot, too! It's really just the screaming that I really don't like and find sometimes is disrespectful to the opponent. @badmintony , your comment is not appropriate.
I love the irony of how condescending you are while barely being able to communicate the simplest points - which are completely unproven, by the way. Or do you have anything to back up your statement that screaming players attract views?
screaming players in that point was just marin and i was responding you. The number of views japan open 2018 vs 2019, indonesia 2019 vs china 2019 are some examples. Marin's match never have a really low view match compare to other top ws to say big view drop. The other way, attract views was my overstating. I actually think scream doesnt affect much the number of views less simple point? this scream is ok but that scream is not. Pointless screaming hurt ppl: anyone die heart attack like a fan watch lin vs lee? Its not worth to ban the screaming. It will affect too many players
Not always? When did she behave in such a way that can be qualified as what you mentioned? She screams but she seems rather friendly with her opponents post match. Nothing she does is forbidden let's remember that. @badmintony totally inappropriate comment. I get the hate about CM and her screams. I myself dislike playing a screamer especially during rallies but isn't the thread becoming a bit too much of an anti CM fan club?
